Content
Students prepare a portfolio presentation, dealing with all aspects relevant: writing, arranging and selecting pieces. This includes taking care of the visual elements. All skills, aims and contents of year 1 are relevant to the audition.

Examination and assessment
Mode(s) of assessment
Audition for a panel of three to five teachers. As a rule, at least two of the panel members are Main Subject Composition teachers. Students prepare five pieces varying in terms of style and tempo, which allow them to showcase their individual skills and musical identity. The pieces can be work developed during Main Subject lessons (with guidance from Main Subject teachers), any other ArtEZ individual or group courses, or work developed outside specific CFT/ArtEZ courses which relates to the compositional skills-development of the composition student.
Criteria
Consistency, efficiency, economy of means, practicality, richness, intrinsic persuasiveness, richness, balance, intelligence, motivation, inventiveness, stylistic awareness, imagination, reflection (analysis, presentation), timing, authenticity and diversity.
Pass requirements
The panel members separately assess the audition with a grade of + (satisfactory), +/- (uncertain) or - (unsatisfactory). Students pass this module if they receive more pluses than minuses.
Examination procedure
Examiners use an outline of relevant criteria to assess students. The examiners hand in their assessment forms 'face-down' to the chair, who then reviews whether or not the number of pluses exceeds the number of minuses. If there are no problems in this area, the chair subsequently fills out the complete chair form, which contains, in the verbal part, a summary of the reasoned evaluations provided by the several examiners.
In case there is not a clear difference between the total of pluses and minuses, or if two examiners' assessments of the student/work diverge drastically, the chair initiates a panel discussion, and firstly asks the relevant examiners to provide a further explanation. Subsequently the other examiners are allowed to participate in the discussion, and the chair eventually asks them to re-vote in consideration of the issues raised during the discussion. If the assessments now lead to a clear difference between the total of pluses and minuses, the chair calculates the result of the re-vote and copies it to the chair form, under the heading of 're-vote', and this new assessment will serve as the final result.
Tests conducted online are valid only if it is done without interruption. The chair will decide whether or not the test was valid.
